Lanez is facing up to 22 years and 8 months in prison ofter being convicted on charges stemming from the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

The song dropped but was then quickly removed from YouTube, Spotify, and various other platforms. Prosecutors want Lanez to serve at least 13 years behind bars.

A sentencing date was initially planned for Tuesday was delayed at the request of Lanez’s attorneys. Lanez has now been given until August 1 to submit a sentencing recommendation ahead of the new August 7 sentencing date.

He faces up to 22 years and 8 months in prison. A new California law would make Lanez’s sentence come in the “middle term” of the potential 22-year sentence, unless “circumstances in aggravation” were proven.

Prosecutors want him to face a longer sentence. Lanez has always denied the allegations.

In an audio recording posted to Instagram Lanez alleged that he “was completely robbed and deprived of a fair trial” and that he watched prosecutors “unlawfully misuse their authority to hide and suppress any and all exculpatory evidence that exonerates me and furthers my innocence.”

“… So, Mr. Gascón, I come to you today as a wrongfully convicted Black man, not asking for sympathy, nor compassion, but for you to simply do what is fair and right in the laws of California, and most importantly in the eyes of God,” he said in the recording.

In a sentencing memorandum obtained by journalist Meghann Cuniff, prosecutors claimed that Lanez showed up at Rolling Loud Miami despite being instructed not to be within 100 yards of Megan and that he allegedly plotted with DaBaby, who was performing after Megan, to rush Megan’s performance. Lanez later appeared as a surprise guest during DaBaby’s timeslot.

“During the victim’s performance, the defendant went through security clearance and entered the green room,” the memo reads. “These areas were within 100 yards of the stage where the victim was performing, in violation of the protective order. It was also brought to the victim’s attention that the defendant and DaBaby attempted to rush the stage… In no way was the victim previously aware of nor did she consent to the defendant’s presence at the venue when she would be performing.”

Prosecutors are trying to get the judge to give Lanez at least 13 years in prison.

Prosecutors allege that anything less than 13 years would “endanger public safety” and “not be in the interest of justice.” They said a premature release could lead to “a campaign to humiliate and re-traumatize the victim.”

“The defendant actively invited harassment of the victim by spreading misinformation to his large following in an effort to galvanize the public against the victim and even the prosecution team without any regard to the dangers it posed,” prosecutors wrote. “The defendant has weaponized misinformation to his large following to such a degree that it has left a lasting traumatic impact on the victim.”

Lanez was convicted of all three charges against him but is awaiting sentencing. He appealed the verdict and failed. Prosecutors cited the rapper’s lack of remorse as another factor for the judge to consider.

Lanez will be sentenced next month and is facing more than 22 years in prison. But prosecutors says he deserves a lengthy sentence because of several different factors because the “Defendant’s actions also demonstrated a high level of callousness.”

“As victim began to walk away from Defendant wearing only a bikini and no shoes, Defendant mocked Victim with ‘Dance Bitch’ as [he] opened fire in her direction. With no justifiable reason, Defendant fired not just one but up to five rounds in the direction of Victim in the middle of a residential neighborhood,” prosecutors wrote in the filing.

“The brazenness of Defendant’s conduct is alarming but the conscious disregard for the well-being and safety of all those around him signifies a high degree of indifference for human life.”

Lanez maintained his innocence but will have to spend some time in prison as a judge denied his motion for a new trial.

Lanez is slated to be sentenced June 13.

Last month, the rapper posted a letter to the district attorney pleading his innocence.

A new potential sentencing date was set during a hearing with Superior Court Judge David Herriford on Tuesday. Lanez’s sentencing will not be on April 10th.

The judge also lifted a gag order that prevented Lanez from speaking publicly about the case.

Lanez was convicted on three charged in connection with the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion…one felony count each of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, discharging a firearm with gross negligence and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle in connection with the shooting early the morning of July 12, 2020.

During the trial, Lanez’s attorney contended that Megan Thee Stallion’s former friend and personal assistant, Kelsey Harris, was “the one who shot her friend.” He claimed that Megan Thee Stallion invented a fake story about the shooting for publicity reasons, calling her “a liar.” Meg denies his allegations.

According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, he wants a judge to throw out the settlement.

Prince said in June 2022, Tory called him to discuss settling the lawsuit.

“[Lanez] presented me with a document that he drafted himself and ordered that I sign the agreement,” he wrote. “He told me not to contact my lawyer when I told him I needed my lawyer to review the agreement,” he said. Prince said he arrived to the meeting to find Lanez with a man who works for him. This individual is the same individual who was ordered by [Lanez] to attack me at the Vendome night club and he did so. I cannot share his identity at this time as this individual threatened me that if I mention his name I would be severely injured or even killed. This individual was in possession of a firearm which was visible at the meeting,” he claimed.

Prince said Lanez and the other man “aggressively ordered me to sign the agreement.” He said he was forced to accept just a fraction of the money he had been trying to get from the singer.

A source told Rolling Stone he felt he was misled by his trial lawyer into not testifying in his own defense.

The source told the outlet that Lanez wanted to take the stand to plead his case but attorney George Mgdesyan talked him out of it.

A long time ago.”
